Artist's Comments

This mask was done as a partner to the Large Dragon in Red for a local masquerade ball. Dainty and petite, she is much more delicate in shape than her partner, and half the span - this mask was designed around a piece of leather with the most remarkable scaly texture and, unfortunately, a very restrictive size. I needed a more feminine mask for this occasion, and in keeping with her theme thought she might like a bit of treasure. Seven swarovski crystals drop between her slender tines, and her finish is a satiny burgundy stain.

On a personal note regarding the design, I really loved her nose. It gave it the right kick over into bestial that it needed, lest she be too prettily human.

Do you want me to tell you something really subversive? Love is everything it's cracked up to be. That's why people are so cynical about it.... It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don't risk

This is GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!! I'm so envious of your skill with leather! And the colors are always so fabulous!
The sharp curves coming out of the sides of the face are fabulous as well as the tines at the top of the mask. The jewelery in the middle is a very nice feminine touch, I think!:)
-I definitely see the 'scaly texture' you mentioned -mostly around the corners of the eyes, and the nose is fantastic!

Thank you ^-^ I was concerned the jewelry was a little too girly, but she is a dragon, after all. I don't think that in my future couples' masks the female will be quite so diminuitive - I just couldn't resist the texture of the tiny little piece of leather. The effect's a little diminished in the sculpted areas, but it really extends all over the mask, just beautiful....

Nope, I think the jewelery was a subtle touch -and as you said, she is a dragon and dragons adore hoarding treasure!;D
-I don't think it's bad having the female's mask be smaller, actually. It adds a nice quality to the duo. But I can see what you're saying about the diminished details due to the smaller work-space.

I need to work on more 'masculine' masks...all of my masks, unless especially made for a male, are feminine...which isn't really good, I think.

I love the detail you put into this mask! It's breath takingly beautiful! Your hardwork shows! You make mask making look so easy! It goes to show you, when you love doing something it shows!

HAHA, you have no idea, the dramatic irony x.x I did this mask and its pair in a rush right before the ball... I attended the dance with this one's paint stains still under a nail or two. She probably put up more of a fight than the male version, and she's in a thinner, softer leather, too... the difficulty was not obliterating the grain (which in a couple places, I did anyway.)
Thank you, however - I'd have to agree with you, especially after seeing your stenciling work X.X
